Commercial Field Estimating Manager
Purpose Statement:
The Commercial Field Estimating Manager position exists to produce pricing quotes, review contracts, provide positive bidding experience for our clients and assign bids and provide on-going development of Estimators. The position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision and must be able to handle projects of any complexity and size, as well as negotiating and closing profitable work.
Essential Functions:
- Produce mistake-free quotes as requested by our customers.
- Track individual bid production and enter information accurately into Bid Matrix.
- Assist project management with any issues that may arise during a project.
- Participate in project descope and handoff meetings.
- Read through specs and look for revisions, addendums and RFIs.
- Inspect drawings and specs to determine takeoffs.
- Build dollar amount of quotes using material pricing, labor productions and quantities.
- Finalize quote and send to GC.
- Independently pursue bid leads in addition to bids that are assigned.
- Negotiate and close projects within acceptable gross margin range.
- Ensure compliance of Estimator duties.
- Develop and track metrics for a variety of initiatives.
Marginal Functions
- Participate in contract review to make sure that the scope of work, contract dollars and documents of work match the quote.
- Create and maintain project documentation folders.
- Reach out to vendors for pricing.
- Prepare written quote.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 8 years in commercial construction estimating or 5 years in commercial carpentry estimating plus experience in a project management role.
- Adept at creating and maintaining peer professional relationships necessary to find and obtain work.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience in Quickbid, OnScreen Takeoff and/or Revit or similar software.
- Experience reading blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to read shop drawings.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Associates or bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management or related study.
- 10+ years in a commercial carpentry and/or prefab estimating position.
- 2+ years overseeing and managing a group of individuals.
- Prior commercial carpentry and/or prefab experience.
- Knowledge of customer base and customer relations.

Work Environment: The work environment will consist mainly of a normal, climate controlled, office environment.
Physical
Demands:
- Must be able to do all of the following occasionally (up to 3 hours), Standing, Walking, Driving, Handling.
- Must be able to do all of the following frequently (3-6 hours), Talking and Hearing.
- Must be able to do all of the following continuously (6 hours or more), Sitting.
Travel: Occasionally up to 3 hours.
Schedule: This position will call for work done during the normal working hours of 7am to 5pm.
