Comm. Coordinator/Career Specialist-New Orleans Area
Essential Functions:
The Community Coordinator/Career Specialist establishes, coordinates and maintains relationships with employers, reentry and supportive services. Works closely with the New Orleans Reentry Task Force Team, the Louisiana Department of Corrections, and other partner agencies to ensure participants are engaged and supported. Coordinates day to day activities such as soliciting employer interest and involvement in the employment of clients/ students, orienting clients/students to the services provided, posting opportunities and tracking placement data.
Responsibilities:
This job requires substantial knowledge of local economic and labor market conditions and trends; effective techniques for contacting potential employers; community resources and professional organizations; flexibility, and experience in workforce development, case management or sales and marketing.
- Develop contact with potential employers daily/cold calls and face to face meeting.
- Develop specific job opportunities that match client’s skills, work experience, related training, and interest.
- Coordinates planning of employment development activities.
- Collaborate with staff, community resources, jails/prisons, probation and parole staff to identify reentry needs and to coordinate services.
- Make contact with clients/students/employers monthly (follow up on placement of clients).
- Attend Job/Career Fairs.
- Ensure the integrity of programmatic and client/student data; and ensure that data is documented in the agency’s client/student information system in real time.
- Organize Job/Career Fairs.
- Attend monthly meetings for Workforce as needed.
- Complete reports as assigned.
- Participate in Workforce Development Webinars.
- Provide social service referrals to all clients.
- Conduct student exit interviews.
- Assist faculty with employer verification forms.
- Conduct employer and graduate follow up surveys.
- Conduct job placement assistance activities.
- Assist in the evaluation of career services plans and procedures 18. Serve as a liaison with staff and community partners as needed.
- Provide social services referrals to all clients/students.
- Complete other tasks as assigned or needed.

- Must maintain strict confidentiality of all information.
Requirements:
- BA or BS is s preferred and three years of experience in organizations involved with workforce development, criminal justice, social work, human services, program development and records management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient in operating a computer and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and other social media application.
- Must possess valid operator's license, provide own transportation, and maintain current vehicle registration, liability insurance and vehicle inspection.
- Must be able to clear DMV check.
- Must be able to receive authorization to provide services in assigned correctional facilities.
- Must be ambulatory.
