Collections Database Assistant (Grant funded)
The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) is accepting applications for a highly motivated Collections Database Assistant to join our team. This is a two-year grant-funded position that offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the preservation of art and culture while gaining significant experience in collections management.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the preservation and accessibility of our permanent collection as we transition to a new collections management system. Key responsibilities include assisting curators, researchers, and the public by ensuring accurate and accessible data, managing our collections management system through data entry and updates, supporting the creation and maintenance of detailed metadata records for each artwork, and providing data support to curators and researchers, including data analysis and report generation
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and Update Collection Records: Ensure the accuracy and completeness of collection records within our specialized collections management system including, but not limited to inputting new acquisitions, updating existing records, and managing changes in provenance or condition.
Conduct Data Audits and Quality Control: Regularly review collection data to identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, or omissions. This involves working closely with curators and registrars to ensure data accuracy and adherence to museum standards.
Create and Manage Metadata: Develop and maintain detailed metadata records for each artwork, including information on artist, title, date, materials, dimensions, and provenance.
Support Research and Exhibitions: Provide data support to curators and researchers, including data analysis, report generation, and assisting with exhibition preparation. This involves working closely with the museum's curatorial and research staff to ensure data accuracy and relevance.
Data Management Trend Adherence: Staying up to date with the latest data management technologies, best practices, and industry standards. This includes attending conferences, workshops, and webinars to stay informed about emerging trends and innovations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in any of these fields: Museum Studies, Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in data entry and management tools.
Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and systems.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A passion for museums and cultural heritage.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with museum collections data.
Familiarity with museum-specific data management software or standards.
Basic knowledge of data analysis techniques.
**** Salary range is $26.00- $27.00 per hour****
