CNC Machinist

United Gear & Machine Works Ltd., a division of Boundary Mining Group is hiring a CNC Machinist.

Job Description:

For over 60 years, United Gear has specialized in industrial gearbox refurbishment and enhancement. We manufacture and design gearing and other machined components to support mechanical project design and refurbishment. United Gear has set itself apart by providing the highest quality gearbox refurbishment services supporting Western Canada’s mining, pulp and paper services, port services, and wind power industries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Primary focus will be on running a Toshiba Vertical Boring & Turning Mill with Fanuc control. 
• Set up and run various manual and CNC lathes, mills, and drilling and tapping equipment.
• Run and edit G-Code.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts, and tables.
• Document and report deviations from specifications and tolerances.
• Maintain personal inspection quality.
• Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Maintain required paperwork and notations. 

Qualifications:

• Red Seal Machinist trade certification.
• Experience with manual lathes, milling machines, engine lathes, drill presses, and CNC machines.
• Mechanically inclined – candidates with personal or work experience with mechanical hobbies or experience will be given preference.
• Experience with measuring tools such as gauges, micrometers, and verniers.
• Experience in oil and gas or mining industries is considered an asset.

• Self-starter, problem-solver, curious, and asks questions in order to learn and support continuous improvement. 
• Strong interpersonal skills, and able to work both individually and in a team environment.
• Dependable and consistent in punctuality, attendance, and quality workmanship.

Working Conditions:

• Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, flexible start & end times once fully trained.
• General manufacturing shop specializing in industrial gearbox rebuilding. 
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Fast-paced environment requiring high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Standing for extended periods of time.
