Role Summary:

The nursing faculty member is expected to willingly accept the mission and philosophy of the nursing program and demonstrate behaviors consistent with the profession and a culture of caring. The faculty member is accountable for the implementation of the approved curriculum and provides the learner with opportunities to acquire and practice the behaviors identified in the course objectives using varied and appropriate teaching methods. The faculty plan learning activities to meet course and program outcomes and meet the standards set by policies, legal and other regulatory requirements, and professional guidelines.  The faculty advises students for successful program progression and evaluates student achievement of identified learning outcomes. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a student-centered, caring learning environment that is conducive to student learning and supports students in meeting learning outcomes.
  • Know and implement the policies in the City College Catalog and Student and Faculty Handbooks
  • Keep accurate, written records on attendance, tests and work submitted by the students.
  • Submit required documentation in a timely manner in accordance with College policies
  • Utilize and disseminate nursing research and scholarship
  • Maintain currency of practice through actual clinical practice or clinical supervision and review of current literature in respective practice/teaching area (s)
  • Be available during posted office hours
  • When responsible for classroom learning in a clinical  or lab course, assist clinical and lab instructors in the preparation for learning activities and evaluation of the learner’s knowledge
  • Under the direction of the Program Director/Chair, serve as local contact for assigned and faculty developed clinical sites


SKILLS/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current, active, unencumbered RN or APRN license for the state of Florida
  • Earned graduate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited program or possesses a graduate degree in a related field.
  • Two years nursing experience in the clinical setting
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Functional abilities to carry out classroom, clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities
  • Competence in clinical skills in areas of teaching
  • Competent in personal computer applications: word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email.
  • Holds membership in a professional nursing organization
  • Successfully complete criminal background check
