The Opportunity:

Working within our Counselling and Gender Based Violence Department, the Clinical Counsellor, Dari/Pasto Speaking provides counselling support to the vulnerable Refugee Claimant, CUEAT visa holders and refugee newcomers in the Surrey and Delta communities with the crucial role in providing comprehensive support to refugee claimant asylum seekers and other refugee individuals and families through DIVERSEcity's BC SAF HAVN contracts. This role will involve both in-office, outreach and advocacy supports, as well as evening and weekend work depending on program needs.  All counselling services and interventions are individualized for each client and family, with the aim of reducing barriers the client is facing and increasing capacity through a strength-based therapeutic approach. To serve the needs of our community, candidates must be able to provide service in English and Dari/Pashto, additional languages an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong therapeutic relationships with clients and families to achieve their goals and meet their needs;
  • Provide group and psycho-educational support for children, youth and families as required and identified;
  • Develop and modify group curriculums reflecting most emergent practice and evidence based support;
  • Participate in client service planning alongside clients and other counsellors within the department;
  • Complete screenings and assessments for referral clients;
  • Provide appropriate treatment/support including individual, couples and family therapy;
  • Establish a supportive, therapeutic relationship with clients and their support systems;
  • Develop crisis and service plans with each client and their supports to support and maintain client wellness;
  • Establish and maintain non-judgmental therapeutic relationships with clients, and collaborate and consult with colleagues and other community resources;
  • Assist with developing/providing education services as required, and participate in integrated service delivery;
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development, evaluation and quality improvement activities;
  • Make referrals to other services as needed.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counselling, psychology, social work or a related discipline from a recognized program;
  • Fluency in Dari/Pashto Language
  • 1+ Years experience in counselling

Qualified candidates will also possess: 

  • Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation from the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors is preferred.  Individuals in the process of obtaining their designation may be considered.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams);
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.

A criminal record check is required as a part of this process.
