Clinical Counsellor, Temporary

This role will provide clinical counselling after assessing client’s social, psychological, emotional and/or behavioral issues and by developing therapeutic programs and interventions. Successful candidates will have a broad base of clinical experience and be proficient in working with a number of presenting concerns including: anxiety, depression, suicide intervention, anger management, marriage and family issues, parenting, conflict resolution, trauma, bereavement, life transition, stress management, substance abuse, crisis intervention, workplace issues, and human resource skill enhancement.
What you'd be doing:
- Maintain connection with related community agencies, health/social services and organizations.
- Ensure the accurate reports and statistics are maintained and submitted
- Work as part of the MCSS team within the context of our mission, values and goals
- Submits recommendations for assessment tool utilization
- Maintain a current knowledge of, and comply with, all organizational policy and procedures.
- Identifies, assesses and monitors client’s need in conjunction with caregivers and/or service provider.
- Interviews clients to gather case history information. Assesses profound social, psychological, emotional and/or behavioural issues affecting clients. Identifies core areas of concern to be addressed by clinical counselling.
- Develops and implements therapeutic plans necessary to meet client goals and objectives. Provides individual and group counselling interventions using therapeutic techniques depending on client need.
- Provides follow-up support to clients after the end of therapy treatment.
- Monitors and evaluates clients functioning and interaction with family and friends and in the community. Advises other professionals involved with client’s case where further evaluation or more intensive treatment is required.
- Maintains knowledge of community resources and provides appropriate referrals to clients to meet their needs.
- Provides consultation to those working with client cases i.e. social workers, probation officers, other organization staff, and other professionals.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programs and approved work-related conferences, workshops and seminars.
- Maintain professional and ethical behaviour as well as confidentiality.
What you'd bring:
- Masters’ degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, Social Work or equivalent. Preferably be registered with a regulatory body in clinical counselling, psychology or social work.
- Minimum two years recent related experience
- Direct Experience in clinical counselling and group therapy with children, youth and their families
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatments to assess and intervene with children, youth and their families with serious mental disorders
- Experience in doing psycho-educational presentations to groups of youth, adults and professionals
- Successful completion of a criminal record check is required
- Certification in First Aid and Non Violent Crisis Intervention
- Valid B.C. Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
- Ability to understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries
- Experience and comfort with Microsoft Office products.
- Confidentiality as per Agency, professional association and legislative requirements

Wage: Grid 16 ($40.10-$46.03)
