Janitor (Part-Time)
JOB SUMMARY
The Janitor is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of all general areas and offices inside Siloam Mission. As part of Siloam Mission’s mandate to be a connecting point between the compassionate and less fortunate, the incumbent is expected to facilitate volunteers whenever possible in the performance of his or her duties.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform cleaning and sanitizing functions while operating equipment and using necessary chemicals;
- Restocking areas with necessary supplies;
- Assist maintenance staff on light maintenance duties and occasional exterior work;
- Practice correct infection control procedures;
- Maintain supplies inventory management;
- Report maintenance related concerns to maintenance staff;
- Keep all janitorial closets clean and stocked;
- Ensure that all cleaning equipment is clean and in good working order.
- Report anything you find in your areas that needs repair/improvement to the Facilities manager;
- Other related duties as required/assigned by Facilities Manager;
- Weekly flushing of all 3 plumbed in eyewash stations.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Experience as a Janitor in a residential, commercial or institutional building;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment;
- Experience in the Non-profit sector is an asset;
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS
- Knowledge of cleaning strategies, waste management, and recycling processes;
- Understanding of Workplace Hazardous Information System and Occupational Health & Safety Act;
- Certification of WHMIS is an asset;
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., continuous walking, standing, repetitive bending, turning, twisting, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and moving heavy items;
RELATIONSHIP
· Interaction with staffs, volunteers, and community members.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Work requires standing and walking around over extended periods of time;
· Can lift at least 50lbs.;
· Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;
WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY
The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.
- Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health
- Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
- Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
- Supports an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.
