JOB SUMMARY:

The Claims Specialist is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and managing workers’ compensation, auto, liability, property, and other insurance claims through the entire lifecycle of the claim. This position works closely with the Risk Management, Safety, and Legal teams and insurance carriers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with reporting of workers’ compensation, auto accidents, liability, property, etc. claims to insurance carriers.
  • Obtain incident reports, photographs, video footage, witness statements, and other supporting documentation related to insurance claims.
  • Manage insurance claims to include investigation, coordination, summarization, reserve evaluation, plan of action, closure, and settlement.
  • Coordinate injury-related visits and drug screenings for Team Members with medical providers.
  • Facilitate prompt return to work for injured team members including modified duty.
  • Send out Team Member Injury alerts and updates to company specific personnel including Group Presidents, Presidents, Supervisors, etc.
  • Communicate regularly and share claim documentation with team members, insurance carriers, legal counsel, repair shops, or doctors’ offices regarding claim status and plan of action.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong ability to plan for, prioritize, and execute assigned tasks without direct supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Superior interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately and timely record information in multiple databases.
  • Ability to learn risk specific software and computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing.
  • Ability to operate computer and scanner with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet.

TRAVEL

Travel may be required to local offices or legal proceedings. Occasionally, this position may also travel within the region to local seminars and conferences.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

The team member must be available 8 hours a day, and must work 40 hours each week, Monday through Friday. The start times may vary. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position is mostly sedentary, but the team member is frequently required to stand; walk; handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • This position requires the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school degree or equivalent necessary, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the insurance claims field.
  • Experience in a risk, safety, or claims related position is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the latest local, state and federal insurance-related policies.
  • Combination of education and experience
