Job Purpose:
The Child Care Specialist is responsible for ensuring that Melinda Webb School consistently meets the Texas minimum standards established by Child Care Regulation and Texas Rising Star. The Child Care Specialist also provides daily support and mentoring to teaching assistants at Melinda Webb School. The Child Care Specialist assists the Director of Education in the management of daily operations of the Melinda Webb School.
Major Responsibilities:
· Oversees and manages the Melinda Webb School Year Round Program
· Leads and supports classroom activities during year-round school days by collaborating with educators, facilitating student engagement, and contributing to instructional routines
· Filing, accurate record keeping, and other documentation, as required by child care regulation
· Coordinate student registration process; collect, review and submit registration documents
· Develop and implement emergency response plans to ensure the safety of children and staff in case of unforeseen events
· Establish and enforce rigorous safety and health standards, including maintaining a safe environment, conducting regular inspections, and addressing any issues promptly to ensure the well-being of children and staff.
· Provides additional classroom support as needed throughout the school year.
· Works directly with the director of education to communicate with parents to answer questions and concerns via email, phone calls, and in-person meetings
· Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education
Physical Demands:
Stand three or more hours a day; walk 10,000 steps a day; sit in low chairs and on the floor; hear; speak clearly; able to bend over; reach with hands and arms; able to lift or move 20-pound boxes or furniture; able to lift and carry a 50-pound child; able to control a child with aggressive behaviors; able to actively participate in outdoor events, including in extreme temperatures; Flu and COVID vaccines required, provided by THI at no cost to employees.
Education and Experience Requirements :
· Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or related field
· 1-2 years of leadership experience preferred
· An understanding of early childhood development
· Philosophical agreement with and commitment to the mission of Texas Hearing Institute
· Child Care Director license through Texas Department of Health and Human Services, preferred
Skills:
· Multi-tasking and prioritize tasks assigned by Director of Education.
· Must be able to effectively communicate with families and THI staff to relay and gather needed information.
· Maintains strict confidentiality with regard to protected health information and abides by Texas Hearing Institute’s HIPAA Privacy and Security Policies
Specific Skills:
Organizational skills, classroom management, composure in stressful situations, patience when handling children, diagnostic teaching skills, flexibility during schedule changes and special events
Basic Competencies:
Excellent oral and written use of English language, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, comprehensive understanding of early childhood development, internet

Required:
