Medical Assistant for Pediatric Victim Support
Our Work: Established in 1986, Pee Dee Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to the reduction of sexual assault, family violence, and child abuse and to the needs of victims. The organization serves the seven-county Pee Dee Region of SC including Florence, Darlington, Marion, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Dillon and Williamsburg Counties. In addition, the Durant Children’s Center also serves Sumter County.
Job Summary: The Children’s Advocate, under the direct supervision of the Shelter Program Director and in collaboration with the other staff shall be responsible for the coordination and implementation of services to child victim/witnesses of domestic violence residing in the emergency safe shelter
Responsibilities:
1. Asses children’s needs and coordinate services.
2. Provide referrals for individual counseling for child victim/witnesses.
3. Facilitate support groups for child victims.
4. Provide support services for victims and their families to include advocacy, information and referral, and resource procurement.
5. Enroll each eligible child in public school and arrange for essential school-based services – transportation, breakfast, lunch, etc. Advocate with school district for appropriate placements or continued enrollment at home school if deemed in the best interest of the child.
6. Follow-up with exiting families within one week to ensure continued school enrollment and assess for additional services.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files with required documentation.
8. Collect statistical data and submit required reports on a monthly and quarterly basis.
9. Assist with the development of information and/or training materials.
10. Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers.
11. Provide community education and awareness of the issues of domestic violence victimization and dissemination program information and services.
12. Provide in-service training for professionals on the issues of domestic assault victimization as related to child victim/witnesses.
13. Attend staff development training as indicated by supervision.
14. Cooperate with the Executive Director and staff to carry out the designated responsibilities in the services of the goals and objectives of the Pee Dee Coalition.
Qualifications:
1. Capability of providing effective crisis intervention, referrals.
2. Ability to interact well with diverse persons, organizations or groups.
3. Possession of leadership, organization and interpersonal skills.
4. Knowledge of Socio/cultural dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault victimization.
5. Ability to function well under stress.
6. Skilled in typing and word processing.
7. Successful completion of PDC volunteer training program.
Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.
