IMC is looking to add a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to our Administrative team on a Part Time basis. The position will assist the medical staff and hospital leadership in fulfilling their responsibilities to patients for the provision of quality care. The CMO will work with the medical staff to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of high-quality medical care, ensuring operational, service excellence, and best practices throughout the hospital. Additional duties include: Assisting in matters pertaining to Joint Commission, regulatory, accreditation, safety, physician recruitment and engagement, clinical informatics and compliance issues. The CMO works with the medical staff on appropriate documentation and coding of medical records and serves as a facilitator for medical staff issues, as well as assisting with the standardization of care and processes across the hospital.  

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum education level of an M.D. or D.O. degree is required.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in clinical medicine is required.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements, and submission processes, as well as a demonstrated track record of effective regulatory management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem solving capability sufficient to apply to both organizational dynamics and business possibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures medical staff compliance with accreditation/licensure requirements such as Joint Commission and State and Federal standards.
  • Contributes in a substantive manner to the development and implementation of the strategic plan within the overall mission of the hospital; actively participating in overall strategic planning for the hospital by providing guidance on the changing medical landscape and future opportunities and directions.
  • Acts as a liaison in the enhancement of communications between the medical staff and administration concerning matters pertaining to the practice of medicine and hospital led strategic development, promoting collaboration, collegiality and fairness among medical staff and departments, and with the administration.
  • Establishes and maintains an ongoing program to orient and develop management expertise for Chiefs of Staff, members of the Medical Executive Committee, Clinical Chiefs, and other medical staff leaders.
  • Provides on-going counsel and advice to the Chief of Staff and Vice Chief of Staff on physician matters. The primary responsibility and authority for dealing with medical staff matters and concerns will rest dually with the Chief of Staff and the CMO. Facilitates, intervenes and moderates all major physician-physician, physician-patient, and physician staff concerns in collaboration with Chief of Staff and other appropriate medical staff and executive team members. Provides leadership and expertise for hospital quality and clinical effectiveness. The CMO will evaluate and optimize the process of disease management, and patient safety and develop processes to ensure appropriateness of care including length of stay and ancillary resource utilization.
  • Ensures that quality management programs are carried out in all clinical areas through the development and implementation of effective disease management programs, clinical protocols and guidelines, and review of the outcomes.
  • Prepares reports that highlight practice patterns as well as appropriate action plans to address performance deviations from benchmarked expectations.
  • Works closely with other executives in developing community commitment/outreach programs.
  • Available on-call for administrative matters and on-site for events requiring disaster management.
  • Makes presentations regarding quality, healthcare issues, physician relations as requested.
  • Provides advice to the management team and physicians on clinical issues pertaining to resource utilization, utilization review, quality improvement, risk management, clinical equipment, and other issues as appropriate.
  • Participates in physician recruitment, retention and engagement as requested.
  • These duties may be adjusted from time to time by CEO.
