POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Engineer is primarily responsible for the overall maintenance of the hotel’s 

building, grounds, and operational systems. This role oversees equipment, 

mechanical/electrical systems, and ensures compliance with safety and security 

protocols. The position also involves training staff, managing maintenance issues, and 

supporting asset management to enhance guest experiences.

The Chief Engineer role is best suited for someone who:

• Has strong technical skills and experience in building maintenance, particularly in 

hospitality settings.

• Is hands-on and proactive, able to identify and resolve maintenance issues 

promptly.

• Possesses leadership skills to train and guide maintenance personnel, ensuring 

quality and compliance with safety standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain maintenance standards for both guest rooms and public areas, following 

company and franchise guidelines.

• Train maintenance personnel in all aspects of property upkeep and provide basic 

training to other staff members as needed.

• Review and resolve maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders, 

prioritizing and scheduling assignments accordingly.

• Ensure property and equipment are maintained safely, with all repairs made per 

manufacturer specifications.

• Uphold the integrity of the hotel’s safety and security programs, particularly related 

to HazMat, Bloodborne Pathogens, SDS, and OSHA compliance.

• Maintain the hotel’s pool, ensuring cleanliness, appearance, and chemical balance 

while completing maintenance logs.

• Function as an independent mechanic, analyzing problems, identifying solutions, 

and implementing repairs to a high standard.

• Respond to emergencies, acting as needed to protect guests, staff, and the 

building’s systems.

• Monitor fire alarm and life safety systems, ensuring full understanding of operations 

and handling emergencies appropriately.

• Solicit bids from contractors, evaluate proposals, ensure compliance with 

specifications, and verify valid liability insurance.

• Maintain building exterior, including grounds and landscaping, ensuring a 

presentable and safe environment.

• Maintain thorough maintenance logs, inventory, and requisition parts and supplies 

as needed.

• Implement and maintain a preventive maintenance program, ensuring ongoing 

upkeep of the property.

• Perform or assist with periodic cleaning projects as scheduled.

• Support energy management programs to optimize resource use.

• Assist other departments as needed and perform other related duties as assigned 

by management.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.

• Must be able to stand for extended periods.

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Prior experience in hotel maintenance or a similar role is preferred, with strong 

technical skills in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
