Position Summary: The Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) is an integral member of the Interdisciplinary Team, responsible for the assessment of play, recreation, leisure skills, and psychosocial adjustment to LTC placement to facilitate therapy, leisure education, and recreation participation for children ages birth to 21 (+) years of age.  The CTRS designs, plans, and implements therapeutic activities and recreation to meet the needs of the residents.  The CTRS is responsible for adherence to the scope and standards of practice as defined by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.   The CTRS demonstrates professional judgment, uses problem solving techniques and time-management principles to achieve quality outcomes for each resident. They participate in resident and family teaching and work collaboratively with other disciplines on the interdisciplinary team to maintain optimal standards of resident care and assure carryover of treatment plans/goals as indicated.  #V2

Position Qualifications: 

  • Dual CTRS/CCLS preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited program
  • Certification by NCTRC as a CTRS; required within 3 months of hire date
  • Pediatric experience in medical settings preferred
  • Experience working with children with medical complexity, chronic illness, disability
  • Ability to supervise groups of infants, children and adolescents with disabilities in a safe manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with healthcare providers and the families
  • Ability to function independently, and as a team member of the TR/CL Department and Interdisciplinary team 
  • Comply with all clinical ladder criteria; qualifications, obligations and areas of competency associated with Levels 1-3.
  • BLS CPR certification
