Surgical Technology Preceptor
Position Summary
The Preceptor is responsible for providing direct supervision, mentorship, and guidance to students during their clinical training experiences. This role involves serving as a role model and educator to ensure students meet clinical competencies and professional standards. The Preceptor works collaboratively with clinical sites, faculty, and program leadership to deliver high-quality educational experiences.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and mentor students during clinical rotations, ensuring they meet established learning objectives.
- Provide hands-on instruction, coaching, and feedback on clinical skills and professional behaviors.
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating best practices in patient care, clinical decision-making, and teamwork.
- Evaluate and document students’ performance, progress, and competencies in clinical settings.
- Communicate regularly with program leadership and faculty regarding students’ progress and any concerns.
- Ensure students adhere to all clinical site policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Facilitate students’ integration into the clinical environment by fostering positive relationships with staff and patients.
- Participate in orientation sessions to prepare students for clinical experiences.
- Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during clinical training.
- Stay current on clinical best practices and teaching methodologies to enhance student learning.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for students and staff.
Requirements
- At least two (2) years of occupational experience in healthcare settings, preferably in surgical or operating room environments.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology or related healthcare program.
- Current CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or equivalent certification is required.
- BPSS Teacher License or eligibility is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentorship skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive learning environment and uphold professional standards.
