Position Summary

Works under the direction of physicians or nurse practitioners. Assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.  Performs nursing procedures and patient care tasks.  Cooperates with the members of the clinical team and other departments of our medical practice. To be a positive professional image and good example of the clinic practice.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Use of proper medical terminology when communication and documenting.
  • Triages patients, checks vital signs, weight and accurately documenting in patient’s electronically medical record.
  • Performs EKG’s, blood sugar check, and administers injections using safety devices.
  • Properly reconciles and refills medications, documenting lot numbers and completing refill requests electronically.
  • Prompt, concise, accurate and complete, communicating, and documenting questions, answers, and test results electronically and verbally.
  • Accurately ordering and scheduling test and procedures electronically and on paper.
  • Requests authorizations for procedures and surgeries indicating all the necessary diagnoses, dates of procedure in a timely manner and in advance allowing authorization representative to obtain proper approval. 
  • Professionally and accurately explain test procedures as well as internal protocols and procedures relating to patient care.
  • Wound care, assist with properly wrapping patient wounds.  Assist with educating patients about proper care to prevent infection.
  • Effectively communicates frequently with the physician or nurse practitioner regarding patient’s physical and mental conditions.
  • Actively participate in and adhere to properly record quality care measure requirements.
  • Accurately schedule appointments and coordinate surgeries and procedures.      

 

 Additional responsibilities:

  • Participates in general, clinical safety and emergency care.
  • Floats as requested by physician or management.
  • Screening patient for COVID when applicable  
  • Assist in training new personnel as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • OSHA training
  • Cleaning Spills of body fluid /infections
  • Use of eye wash station
  • Proper use of PPE
  • Sharps lock down for disposal.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

High School graduate preferred.

Certification from a reputable Medical Assistant course (CMA)

Computer skills required.

CPR certified

Successful completion of a Certified Medical Assistant course required.

Previous clinic or hospital experience with acceptable references preferred.

·         Ability to communicate with individuals of all ages.

·         Physical activities involve balancing, bending, kneeling, lifting, pulling, positioning, pushing, reaching, and standing.

·         Finger and hand dexterity is necessary to handle and manipulate equipment and supplies.

·         Visual and aural acuity is necessary to detect changes in a patient’s condition.

·         Fast pace and ability to work under stressful situations.

·         Moderate to loud working environment

·         An individual in this position will be exposed to inside environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens, and respiratory hazards.
