Certified Medical Assistant
SUMMARY: Responsibilities are drawing blood from patients to include interviewing and preparing the patient for the blood draw as well as labeling and testing the blood sample. Responsible for routine medical attention to patients with work performed under the general supervision of an attending Physician or Nurse Practitioner. Provides prescribed medical treatment, personal care services, and prevention education to patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet patients and answer telephones
- Records patient's medical history and vital signs and prepares patients for examination. Assist physician or nurse practitioner during examinations, instruct patients about medications and special diets.
- Cleans and dresses wounds
- Collect samples, such as urine, blood, and specimens from patients for testing and performs routine laboratory tests.
- Observes patient and reports adverse reactions of medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge
- Practice proper patient identification
- Label vials with patient names and dates
- Decipher the best method for drawing blood depending on the specific patient
- Centrifuge blood samples
- Administer Covid-19 testing
- Assist with the Covid-19 Drive Thru Testing Sites
- Expect to work with a large number of patients varying in age and health status
- Keep your phlebotomy cart or station well-organized at all times
- Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment
- Administers specified medications, orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injections, and notes time and amount on patient charts
- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of clinical area
- Sterilizes equipment and supplies, inventories and requisitions supplies
- Arranging examining rooms, instruments, and equipment and generally keeping examining rooms neat and clean
- Refers patients to Physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment
- Assists in patient intake, eligibility determination, scheduling appointments, data entry, billing, payment collection, Medicaid referral authorizations, and patient follow-up
- Handle clinical and administrative correspondence
- Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of patient records
- Perform basic diagnostic x-rays
- Expedite outside contractual assignments
- Perform all lab testing for the organization
- Facilitate training for both students and new employees on lab procedures
- Maintains the Bio-Hazard program
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program: Certification required
Pediatric experience a plus
OB/GYN experience a plus
Mandatory- 2 years working experience under the Medical Assistant certification
Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience working in a lab, preferred
Clinical and administrative skills necessary to ensure excellent patient care and the smooth, efficient operation of the office
A valid Alabama Drivers license and insurable driving record as travel will be required between our 6 clinical sites.
