Casual Stage 1 English Instructor

Reports to: Community Connection Centre Manager

Job Type: Casual (32 hours per month)

Qualifications:

• Valid Saskatchewan Teaching or TESL SK Accreditation;
• Experience teaching English as a second language;
• Must pass Vulnerable Sector, Criminal Record Check;
• Must be able to work independently with little supervision;
• Basic computer skills a necessity (Word, Excel, Email, Internet);

Remuneration: $32.32 per hour

Objectives: To facilitate newcomers’ connection and active participation in social and economic networks and the broader community thru the delivery of the Stage 1 English program for CLB levels pre-benchmark to 4, using an adult, learner-centered model.

Duties: 

• Deliver Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) thematic instruction to improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to meet participants’ language learning goals;
• Assess participant’s progress in relation to CLB using a collaborative portfolio assessment approach;
• Provide participants with real-life learning opportunities for out-of-classroom language practice to facilitate everyday, functional language learning;
• Collaborate with other staff to ensure a holistic and client-centered approach to service delivery;
• Reporting and other administrative duties;
• All other duties as required;

Probation:  All YWCA Prince Albert positions contain a three-month probationary period.
