Avail Staffing connects skilled tradespeople with leading shipyard and marine industry employers. We are currently seeking an experienced Shipyard Carpenter to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in marine carpentry who take pride in quality craftsmanship and precision work.
Position Summary:
As a Shipyard Carpenter, you will construct, repair, and install wooden structures, fixtures, and components on various marine vessels. You will work closely with shipfitters, welders, and other trades to ensure all carpentry work meets shipyard standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and wood substitute materials according to blueprints and specifications.
- Repair and replace damaged wooden structures and fixtures on ships.
- Install and maintain bulkheads, furniture, cabinets, doors, and other onboard wooden fittings.
- Operate carpentry tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
- Inspect and verify accuracy of installations and repairs.
- Follow all safety guidelines and shipyard procedures.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years previous experience as a carpenter in a shipyard or marine environment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
- Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights as needed.
- Must be able to pass all pre-employment screenings.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 50 lbs. regularly.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in outdoor and shipyard environments.
Schedule & Pay:
- Full-time, 40+ hours per week
