FIRST UNITED is seeking applications for the position of: Campaign Manager

This role is to cover parental leave from April 2025 - May 2026.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

FIRST UNITED is redeveloping its site into an 11-storey purpose-built building and has been executing a $37 million capital campaign since 2021. The campaign has raised over $33 million to date and will run until 2027. Construction on the building is scheduled to be completed in November 2025.

The Campaign Manager works closely with the Director of Development and Communications, Executive Director, and the campaign team to help keep the campaign on schedule and progressing with a high level of visibility, momentum, and financial results. This role is an integral part of the campaign and helps with:
a. FUNDRAISING: monitoring the donor cycle, including prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship and coordinating and participating in solicitations, and
b. COMMUNICATIONS: managing the communications strategy and project managing and/or creating design assets and campaign collateral material

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Gift Fundraising:

  • PROSPECTING: Conduct prospect identification and research with other members of the team. Including Individual and Corporate Giving.
  • CULTIVATION: Plan and execute campaign related events, information sessions, and meetings.
  • SOLICITATIONS:
    a) Make arrangements for campaign team to meet with donors, including suggestions for engagement opportunities and prepare customized materials needed for meetings and/or follow-ups.
    b) Make arrangements and participate in solicitation with the Director of Development and Communications and/or Executive Director
  • STEWARDSHIP:
    a) Ensure that every campaign gift and pledge is managed seamlessly so that the donor is officially thanked within 48 hours of receiving the gift and thanked again by other members of the campaign team.
    b) Ensure that pledge reminders are sent and pledges fulfilled.
    c) Coordinate and execute stewarship events and meetings, including donor events associated with the opening of the building.
    d) Manage stewardship projects associated with the campaign including dedication activities, a commemorative book, and communicating campaign progress to donors
  • GRANT POTENTIAL: Research and write grants applicable to infrastructure and capital projects. 

Administration:

  • DATA Management: Enter touchpoints and actions with prospects in Raisers Edge with assistance from Database Manager.
  • CAMPAIGN / COMMITTEE REPORTING: Work with Director of Development and Communications to schedule committee meetings. Attend, provide material and capture action items where necessary. Develop and maintain an accurate report of campaign progress to date including keeping track of dedication opportunities/inventory.
  • FINANCIALS: Responsible for pulling financial reports.
  • PAPERWORK & CONTRACTS: Update and track Contribution Agreements and/or contracts for contributors where needed.

Communications:

  • COMMUNICATIONS PLAN: Assist in developing and executing, with the Campaign leadership and staff, a public relations/communications plan to keep the campaign in the public's eye and to maintain its momentum.
  • CAMPAIGN COLLATERAL: responsible for keeping material up to date and providing design requests and guidance to external contractors.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA: provide content to the Communications Specialist to align with overall organization strategy.
  • COPY: Write fundraising copy for digital, direct mail, print and social media in coordination with Annual Fund communications team. 

Campaign Phases:

  • Continue to monitor the progress of the campaign during the Public Phase, and help reach goals in final phase of the campaign.
  • Responsible for Campaign Wrap-Up action items including Donor Recognition fulfillment: donor walls, benefits and project managing the First Forward Book.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time. 
  • Successful track record of soliciting five-figure gifts from individuals and corporate partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships.
  • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, and also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside FIRST UNITED.
  • High energy and passion for FIRST UNITED's mission is essential.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
  • A strong track record of positioning an organization to achieve tangible outcomes in a competitive communications environment.
  • Comfortable engaging with the Christian community required (no statement of faith or identification as Christian necessary).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree preferred and/or certificate or diploma in Fundraising.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential an asset.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a non-profit organization with either a fundraising or communications focus. 
  • High School Diploma or combination of education & experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a telemarketing or fundraising role.
  • Strong experience using Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Excel.
  • Strong experience in customer service and working with the public.
  • Experience working in the Downtown Eastside, or an understanding of the neighbourhood is a bonus. 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Budget:

  • Responsible for ensuring final $4M of a $37M capital campaign is raised.
  • Oversees a $3M capital campaign budget.

Supervisory/Management responsibility: 

None

Latitude:

The incumbent works closely with the Director of Development and Communications and Executive Director. If clarification is required, it is expected that the incumbent will request further direction from the Director of Development and Communications:

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Regular communication is maintained with all levels of staff and management. Communication is also maintained with the external campaign cabinet and co-workers as work is assigned and completed, and information exchanged on an ongoing basis.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15lbs at times.

  • No unusual environmental conditions.

Sensory demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to read, watch, study, observe, and engage in focused listening for concentrated blocks of time.

Mental Demands:

  • Possible exposure/proximity to traumatic medical events and clients in crisis.
  • Possible exposure to emotionally disturbing experiences.

Some evenings and weekends may be required for special events and meetings. This is a hybrid role that requires the incumbent to be in-office for regular meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
