Camp Nurse

Job Summary 

The Day Camp nurse is responsible for the day-to-day first aid and healthcare needs of approximately 300 campers and 60 staff members. The camp nurse will monitor all health records for campers and staff to ensure compliance with the Hanson Board of Health. As part of our camp team, you will play a role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our campers.  

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Administer meds throughout the day and record in the Medication Administration log 

  • Treating campers/staff for any necessary first aid 

  • Complete Injury/Incident Report forms 

  • Maintain the nurse’s office daily log of visits 

  • Maintain Staff and Camper health forms, especially around immunization compliance 

  • Monitoring campers/staff with allergies, chronic conditions, or special medical needs 

  • Communicate with parents around camper health concerns 

  • Maintain an organized, clean, well-stocked nurses’ cabin 

  • Communicable disease reporting 

  • Adhere to the Department of Public Health guidelines 

  • Collaborate with camp staff to create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment 

Education and Experience 

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts  

  • Three to five years of related experience is preferred 

  • Experience working in and/or attending summer camp is a plus 

  • Experience with children with special needs is helpful and preferred 

Physical Demands 

  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds 

  • Must be able to work in person, on-site in Hanson, MA 

  • Physically and verbally able to interact with children and staff 

  • May be required to sit or stand for an extended period of time 

  • Mobility over outdoor terrain that may include roots and rocks 

Work Environment 

  • Nurse cabin located in an outdoor wooded area 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high 

 

 

Required training/certifications 

  • Licensed RN in Massachusetts 

  • CPR/First Aid certification 

  • Mandated Reporter Training 

  • Concussion Training
