Camp MSC Lead Instructor
Spend your summer as a camp instructor at Maryland Science Center! Lead campers through hands-on STEM activities in our museum exhibits and classrooms, while explaining content and answering questions. Each Lead Instructor is paired with an assistant, and possibly a volunteer, to help the instructor facilitate activities. At the camp manager’s discretion, candidates may be asked to serve as the Lead Instructor after completing a minimum of one week at the assistant level.
Camp MSC provides five weeks of Monday-Friday, half-day and full-day summer camps for children aged 4-13 years old. Camp MSC will run from July 6- August 7, 2026.
Basic Functions:
· Supervise and engage campers in various themed activities, ensuring camper safety and well-being at all times
· Maintain open and clear communication with Camp MSC staff about health, safety, and behavioral needs of campers
· Prepare, facilitate, and clean-up daily camp activities, with support from Assistant Instructor and volunteers
· Revise written camp materials, including schedule and activities, to best reflect campers’ needs
· Foster a positive camp culture by encouraging respect, teamwork, and inclusivity among campers and staff
Preferred Experience and Skills:
· Interest and/or coursework in science or education are encouraged
· All applicants must be able to work independently and as part of a team
· Familiarity with or comfort learning and explaining science content
· Experience teaching in an informal setting
· Demonstration of good judgment, personal responsibility, and time management
Requirements:
· Experience working with children between ages 4-13
· Applicants must have completed at least two years of college coursework or have comparable experience working with groups of children
· Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting
Positions Supervised: No direct supervision
Supervision Received: Immediate supervision received from Summer Camp Manager

Hours: Lead Instructors are preferred to work at least two weeks of camp. Each full-day of summer camp is from 8:30am-4:30pm with an hour lunch break, and half-day camps run from 8:30am-12:30pm. Additional opportunities to revise written programming may exist.
Compensation: $16.25/hour
