Position Overview
We are seeking a Camp Chef to oversee meal planning, food service, and kitchen operations at Camp Horizon, located in the breathtaking Kananaskis Country. This leadership role is ideal for a culinary professional who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to the growth of our events and dining programs.
As the Camp Chef, you will not only manage daily food preparation but also play a key role in developing an events menu in collaboration with our Events Lead. Your ability to create memorable culinary experiences will directly support the expansion of our events program, enhancing the overall guest experience at Camp Horizon.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and inspire a team of kitchen staff, fostering a positive and efficient work environment.
Work closely with the Events Lead to design an engaging and versatile events menu, elevating the culinary experience for special events, retreats, and camp programs.
Mentor and train kitchen staff, ensuring high standards of food preparation and service.
Culinary Excellence
Plan and prepare nutritious, high-quality meals that cater to diverse dietary needs, including allergies, cultural preferences, and specialized nutrition plans.
Ensure food is visually appealing, delicious, and aligned with the Camp Horizon experience.
Maintain an organized and efficient kitchen, upholding Alberta Health Services (AHS) food safety regulations.
Operations & Compliance
Oversee kitchen inventory management, food ordering, and supplier relations.
Implement proper food storage, rotation, and waste reduction strategies.
Ensure full compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory Certifications:
FoodSafe Level 1 Certification
WHMIS Certification
Standard First Aid & CPR Certification
Experience & Skills:
Minimum 2 years of professional cooking experience, ideally in a camp, hospitality, or high-volume kitchen setting.
Proven leadership experience in a kitchen environment, with the ability to manage and develop a team.
Strong understanding of accommodating special diets, allergies, and cultural food preferences.
Familiarity with Alberta Health Services regulations for commercial kitchens.
