Job Title: busser/backwaiter

Department: FOH Position Status: Part-Time Classification:        Non-Exempt

Reports To:             General Manager, Floor Manager



JOB SUMMARY

The busser/backwaiter works in collaboration with the Servers and all floor staff to maintain a clean, orderly dining table for guests and to set tables in preparation for new diners. This position is responsible for the removal of empty, dirty plates from guest tables in an efficient and non-intrusive way, stocking clean, polished silverware and glasses, and resetting tables once guests have left. This job description reflects the general level and nature of the job. It is not intended to be all inclusive.


PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Extend a genuine welcome and good-bye to all Ettan + Copra + Eylan guests

  • Know table and seat numbers; standard and special table arrangements

  • Clear, clean, sanitize and reset tables with place settings (turning tables)

  • Keep the banquette, chair seats and floor free of debris and water spills

  • Work as a team with other busser/backwaiters and floor staff who are assisting with turning tables

  • Know the food and drink menu items by sight

  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the beer garden, patio and restaurant

  • Scan the dining room when going to and from the kitchen, looking for any guests who may need the attention of their server and communicate with the service staff as needed

  • Assist with private dining room Abajo, carrying dirty plates to the dish pit, dirty glassware to the bar

  • Communicate with management about any disappointed guest experiences or special praise for their Ettan + Copra + Eylan experience


SECONDARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with maintaining dirty linen bags; keeping an empty bag securely tied in the wire frame, replace as needed, bring the full bag to trash room and place on the staging area for dirty linen

  • Maintain bins of recycling and trash on the server side of the dish pit and take out at the end of the shift

  • Sweep floors as part of opening duties


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES - REQUIRED

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

  • Current Food Handler and Unlawful Harassment training certificates

  • Possess a genuine love of hospitality and guest service

  • Maintain composure under pressure with quickly changing priorities

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES – PREFERRED

  • Previous experience in hospitality, quick service or full service restaurant


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Stand stationary in kitchen throughout the shift for periods of time (up to 8 hours per day, 5 days per week);

  • Continuous physical activity including walking, standing, twisting, sitting, bending, lifting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, crawling, wiping, climbing, pushing and pulling items weighing 50 pounds for distances of up to 20 ft.;

  • Stand and move throughout the restaurant;

  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills;

  • Interpret and follow a variety of instructions and procedures furnished in - written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;

  • Work under pressure with changing, ambiguous priorities;

  • Auditory and visual skills – Specific vision abilities required by this job include

close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus;

  • Ability to work overtime occasionally at the last minute;

  • Be able to adeptly use restaurant equipment;

  • Understand and respond to staff requests in a loud environment;



EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Shift times vary based on hours the restaurant is open.
