Rife Resources Ltd. is a private oil and gas exploration and production company, wholly-owned by the CN Pension Trust Funds (pension fund for employees of the Canadian National Railway). Rife has interests in approximately 414,000 acres of land in Western Canada. Rife’s current production is ~5,000 boe/d with operational focus on heavy oil in the greater Lloydminster area. Rife also manages the assets of Canpar Holdings Ltd. and Freehold Royalties Ltd.

Canpar Holdings Ltd. is a private land holdings company, wholly-owned by the CN Pension Trust Funds. Canpar generates income through resource development royalties on its ~4.1 million gross acres of mineral title lands in Western Canada.

Freehold Royalties Ltd. is a public mineral title and royalty company with oil and gas properties across five provinces in Canada and eight states in the United States. Freehold generates approximately 14,500 -  15,000 boe/d of royalty production from over 6 million gross acres of mineral title and gross overriding royalty lands in Canada and over 1 million gross drilling acres in the United States. Freehold is focused on providing investors with low risk returns and growth over the long term by acquiring and creating new high-quality royalties. (TSX: FRU)

Business Intelligence Analyst

Rife is seeking candidates for the position of BI Analyst. This position is based in Calgary and will report to the Team Lead, Data, Innovation and Analytics. The successful candidate will work with the team to further develop and enhance business analytics tools and integration across various business units within the enterprise(s). As part of a close-knit and experienced team, you will work closely with a Data Architect, a GIS Architect, the Team Lead, and business users from the full spectrum of domains and disciplines within the company(s), from executives to end users. You will be supporting a variety of business drivers within our group of companies with a wide variety of projects, scopes and stages, and there is opportunity to influence the direction of analytics and innovation for the enterprise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and support reports, dashboards, and visualizations for company stakeholders;
  • Assist with requirements gathering for new projects and enhancements;
  • Work with the team architects to design, develop, and implement business intelligence solutions and improve data architecture and performance;
  • Develop an understanding of the current data architecture and provide input on future enhancements with the team;
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation to support users and product development initiatives, including user manuals, data architecture diagrams and data dictionaries;
  •  Assist with development of learning resources for users, to be shared via webinars, in-person sessions and on the Intranet Learning Hub;
  • Provide training to  users on how to use dashboards, leverage our data architecture to drive insights, and how the collaborative enhancement process is implemented at Rife; and
  • Support any ad-hoc analysis requests as needed.

Required Characteristics, Attributes and Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • The Upstream Oil & Gas Industry
    • Land data and subsurface rights
    • Financial data
    • Dimensional models
    • Requirements gathering
  • Direct experience creating and customizing visualizations with:
    • Spotfire
    • PowerBI
    • SQL development including building simple queries and optimizations.
    • Microsoft Technology Stack (PowerApps/Automate, SharePoint, PowerShell.)
  • Self-motivated individual with a proactive customer service focus accustomed to working in a fast-paced, high-performance environment;
  • Strong critical thinker who enjoys learning and solving technical problems; and
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, create documentation and assist with education for all levels of data literacy.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' analytics / business intelligence experience in an energy environment;
  • Post-secondary diploma/certificate in Business Intelligence or Business Analytics, or related technical discipline such as Engineering or other technical fields, or equivalent industry experience;
  • Basic SQL (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, SQLite) is required; and
  • Python is an asset.
