Rife Resources Ltd. is a private oil and gas exploration and production company, wholly-owned by the CN Pension Trust Funds (pension fund for employees of the Canadian National Railway). Rife manages the assets of Canpar Holdings Ltd. and Freehold Royalties Ltd. 


BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

Freehold Royalties Ltd. is seeking a candidate for the position of Business Development Engineer in the Freehold Business Development team. This position is based in Calgary and reports directly to the Team Lead of Business Development. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the technical and economic evaluation of strategic initiatives to deliver value from our existing portfolio of assets and acquisition opportunities for Freehold’s Canadian business unit.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Business Development Engineer will collaborate with Geology and Land to evaluate both proactive and market-driven opportunities. Strong business acumen, ability to manage priorities, effective communication and presentation skills required, as there are numerous recommendations to the management and executive teams, often within fixed deadlines. 


Responsibilities:

  • Functional expert providing subject matter expertise to the team to maximize the value of the Canadian royalty asset portfolio;
  • Work collaboratively with the other disciplines to evaluate inbound deal proposals as well as internally generated acquisition targets;
  • Create development models and economic analysis to determine appropriate bid levels;
  • Collaborate with Geology, Land and Finance staff to develop bid recommendation presentations;
  • Deliver and defend bid recommendations to the Executive Management and the Board of Directors;
  • Leverage large data sets quickly and efficiently to provide recommendations on acquisition opportunities;
  • Work collaboratively to identify and support asset optimization strategies;
  • Provide engineering input into reserves evaluation and production forecasts;
  • Monitor Industry activity, participate in the formulation strategy for acquisition targets.


Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. in Engineering with 10-15 years of oil and gas industry experience, with a strong background in identifying and evaluating acquisition opportunities;
  • Significant direct business development experience; flexible and adaptable to meet critical deadlines, while managing multiple priorities;
  • Broad understanding and knowledge of Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin plays and trends;
  • Capable research skills to analyze and integrate incomplete datasets as part of asset evaluations;
  • A creative and high performing individual with a practical mindset is an asset;
  • Strong computer skills with experience using: GeoScout, Spotfire, Microsoft Office and Value Navigator (or other reserves/economic modelling software);
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams: Geology, Land, Finance, Investor Relations and Management;
  • Excellent written, oral, organizational and people skills; ability to communicate highly technical details effectively and succinctly;
  • Insatiable curiosity, creativity and a drive for continuous improvement are preferred personality traits;
  • Current membership with APEGA and a P. Eng. Designation would be considered an asset.
