Rife Resources Ltd. is a private oil and gas exploration and production company, wholly-owned by the CN Pension Trust Funds (pension fund for employees of the Canadian National Railway). Rife’s production is in the greater Lloydminster area, with operational focus on heavy oil. Rife also manages the assets of Canpar Holdings Ltd. and Freehold Royalties Ltd.

Canpar Holdings Ltd. is a private land holdings company, wholly-owned by the CN Pension Trust Funds. Canpar generates income through resource development royalties on mineral title lands in Western Canada.

Freehold Royalties Ltd. is a public mineral title and royalty company responsible for managing one of the largest non-government portfolios of oil and natural gas royalties in Canada, with a sizeable land base in the U.S.  Freehold is focused on providing investors with low risk returns and growth over the long term by acquiring and creating new high-quality royalties. Business Analyst

Rife is seeking  a Business Analyst to join our team and play a key role in maximizing profitability and supporting our strategic decision-making process.  This position is based in Calgary and reports to the Vice President, Operations, and will be responsible for maintaining cash flow models, analyzing variances in production, revenue, and expenses, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and supporting the forecasting and budgeting process to drive our financial success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the company’s cash flow model, perform sensitivity analysis to maximize profitability, shareholder distributions, and net asset value;
  • Perform variance analysis for operating, capital, and G&A expenses for Month-end and Stewardship Packages, supporting Operations, Operations Accounting, and Financial Accounting;
  • Improve business systems, supporting monthly accruals, forecasts, and annual budget processes, ensuring accurate master information;
  • Compile and consolidate the annual Operations Budget and reforecasts;
  • Provide information for G&A budgeting processes;
  • Coordinate, compile, analyze, and communicate results for Executive and Board Reporting, including the preparation of board materials;
  • Build and maintain a carbon tax/cost model and liability cost and value model;
  • Analyze and recommend hedging opportunities, and calculate mark to market hedging exposures;
  • Analyze and benchmark performance relative to peers, researching and communicating operational and financial drivers for the business; and
  • Develop and facilitate training sessions related to Business Acumen, fostering teamwork and communication between Operations, Technical teams, and Finance.

Required Characteristics, Attributes and Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis; and
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Qualifications

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field would be considered an asset;
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting in the oil and gas industry;
  • Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills; and
  • Experience with Business Intelligence Tools such as Power BI and Spotfire and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is preferred.
