About the role: 

PBS Facility Service is seeking a responsible and attentive Bus Matron to support a safe and orderly environment for students traveling to and from school. The Bus Matron will play a vital role in ensuring student safety, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting with daily transportation needs. This role requires a dependable individual who can communicate effectively with students, the bus driver, and school staff. 

What you will do: 

  • Safety and Discipline: 

  • Enforce bus safety rules, ensuring that students understand and comply with regulations for a safe riding environment. 

  • Maintain a calm and disciplined atmosphere on the bus, helping to prevent disruptive or unsafe behavior. 

  • Assisting Passengers: 

  • Assist students when boarding and exiting the bus to ensure they do so safely and securely. 

  • Cleanliness: 

  • Support the bus driver in maintaining a clean and tidy bus environment, removing trash or other debris as needed. 

  • Communication and Coordination: 

  • Work closely with the bus driver and school staff to report any issues, changes, or concerns related to student behavior or safety. 

  • Engage in regular communication with school personnel regarding any incidents or transportation updates. 

  • Monitoring and Reporting Incidents: 

  • Board the bus at the school and ride with students throughout the entire route until the last stop. 

  • In cases of disruptive or dangerous behavior: 

  • Instruct the student to stop the behavior. 

  • Report and discuss ongoing issues with the teacher or principal. 

  • Prepare a written statement of misbehavior, submitting it to the principal and transportation office if the behavior persists. 

  • Document and immediately report any incidents involving physical harm to the principal and transportation office for further action. 

What it takes to be successful: 

  • Previous experience working with children or in a school environment preferred. 

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally.
