Job Summary:

This position is for a proactive, efficient Building and Grounds Technician who possesses an understanding of proper building care methods and a respect for the religious and cultural beliefs of the church and its people.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems for proper operation

  • Assure all signs and emergency exits are operational and in accordance with building codes

  • Reconfigure, install, and assemble office furniture, partitions, and other fixtures and furniture as necessary 

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair parking lots, roof, gutters, and other building structures 

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair walls, including carpentry, drywall, etc.

  • Inspect for building hazards and correct as needed

  • Prepare for building code inspections, including fire safety plans and equipment, maintenance records, evacuation plans, certificate records, etc.

  • Apply and maintain interior and exterior painting as needed

  • Oversee and maintain inventory of building equipment, supplies, and tools

  • Ensure all church campuses are clean, organized, and well-maintained

  • Maintain inventory and stock with necessary items

  • Manage proper handling of cleaning solutions 

  • Assist with event preparations, setup, and breakdown

  • Uphold quality maintenance standards for church grounds

  • Delegate responsibilities in advance of vacations or known absences

  • Perform other small jobs as required


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Read and interpret electronic work orders and assembly manuals

  • Read and understand departmental policies and procedures

  • Organize/prioritize work to meet deadlines 

  • Establish/maintain effective working relationships with staff and vendors

  • Maintain and expand a basic knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and electrical as necessary

Work Environment:

This position operates in a professional church environment and is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning and landscaping upkeep of buildings. The job is labor intensive, however basic administrative deskwork is also required.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, including being able to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl and reach for extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to utilize/view a PC and/or monitor

  • Must be able to lift and move at least 40 lbs.

  • Must be comfortable and able to work at height

  • Must be able to work independently without direct supervision

  • Must have a valid MD Drivers License and reliable transportation 


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position with a rotating shift work schedule. Hours may vary between days, nights, and weekends. Schedules will be available two weeks in advance based on the events happening on Bridgeway Campuses.

Travel:

Local travel between Bridgeway campuses, vendors, and hardware stores is required. Will be expected to travel to attend conferences and other career enhancement opportunities.

Education and Experience:

Associate's degree in related field, certification or 3-5 years experience in building and grounds maintenance.
