This position is responsible for leading and planning the billing and prior authorization department. The individual is responsible for enforcing policies and procedures, as well as streamlining effective billing and report distribution. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and direct the department. 

Hours: Monday-Friday 9a-5p; salary-exempt  

Locations: Bowie, MD/Stevensville, MD  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day functions of the Billing and Pre-Authorization departments
  • Plan and implement quality assurance for all processes
  • Assist in balancing accounts receivable reconciling statements as needed
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished 
  • Assist in preparing financial and statistical reports as directed
  • Data entry on all patient charges and refunds
  • Perform monthly audits on internal and external write-off reports
  • Work in conjunction with 3rd party billing company to ensure all claims are being received with accurate and needed information
  • Handles patient complaints and billing inquiries and involves manager when necessary
  • Works with the Prior Authorization team to ensure correct coding to increase collections
  • Responsible for bi-weekly approval of timecards
  • Assists in employee performance reviews and disciplinary action
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES) 

  • ICD-10 coding certificate
  • Billing management experience
  • Excellent Customer services skills
  • Ability to Multi-task
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision required
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and, PowerPoint
  • Promotes teamwork within the department
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to motivate direct reports
  • Project management expertise for implementing departmental improvements
