Pay Range: $11.00 - $16.31 an hour
Position Statement
This position is responsible for providing Spanish-English translation services (verbal and written) to families and staff members. To serve as liaison between the agency and others serving our clients. This position will also assist Spanish-speaking families with all aspects of Head Start services.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for translating written program materials from English to Spanish.
- Responsible for interpreting for Parent Committee and other Advisory committees when necessary.
- Provide interpretation services for contacts between families and staff.
- Responsible for providing family support and family engagement services for assigned families.
- Responsible for providing assistance communicating with families when problems, concerns and or when needs arise between families of dual language learners/non-English speaking families and staff.
- Responsible for assisting with Head Start/Early Head Start/PreK families connecting with community resources.
- Conduct home visits for the purpose of enrolling students in the program, conduct interviews with parents, informing parents of school and/or community resources, providing child and family development/parenting information, and helping family set and reach goals.
- Responsible for assisting in the classroom as needed.
- Responsible for assisting with recruitment, screenings, and transitioning of dual language learners within all programs.
- Responsible for the promotion of literacy of dual language families.
- Responsible for assisting with screening for all children who are dual language learners.
- Maintains a variety of manual and electronic records, (e.g., program participation, contact sheets, family file, Child Plus database, agency referrals, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and tracking required data and information on program participants.
- Other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent with advanced training in working with children and families. Two years of experience in providing written and verbal translation services, Two years of experience working with low-income children and families. Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish, good organization skills, excellent customer service skills, computer literate, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, able to periodically attend out of town conferences and training sessions.
Preferred: Two year Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, two years’ experience in providing written and verbal translation services, two years’ experience working with low-income children and families. Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish, good organization skills, excellent customer service skills, computer literate, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, able to periodically attend out of town conferences and training sessions.
