The Harborside Inn is now hiring seasonal bellhops for its 2024 season!

 

These positions are located on Martha's Vineyard.  Shared dormitory-style housing is available.  

 

Located on the harbor in the heart of Edgartown, the Harborside Inn is Martha's Vineyard premier waterfront resort. With 90 guest rooms and luxury hotel amenities, it is the perfect place to vacation in the heart of Edgartown with all the galleries, dining, shops, and nightlife the town has to offer.

Anticipated Dates:

Our full season is from April 1, 2024, through November 15, 2024. All positions, including seasonal roles, remain employment-at-will. Preference may be given to those available full season. However, those unable to work a full season are not necessarily automatically disqualified. Start and end dates may be flexible.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Bellhop plays a key role in our mission to deliver world-class service and products and a memorable vacation experience to everyone who passes through our doors. They ensure every single guest and owner has an enjoyable experience at the Inn. This includes greeting everyone and assisting with their luggage. It also includes monitoring and maintaining the parking lot. The position involves:


Operationally Related:

  • Assisting guests and owners with their arrival, departure, and with their luggage. 

  • Ensuring vehicles in the parking lot have a Harborside Inn parking permit and that the parking procedures are being followed.

  • Opening hotel doors and vehicle doors (when applicable) for those arriving and departing.

  • Maintaining the cleanliness and presentability of the parking lot and luggage closet

  • Following key control procedures.

  • Assisting with traffic control in the loading and unloading areas. 

  • Ensuring the ramp area and lobby remains clean and presentable.

  • Making deliveries to guest/owner rooms or other departments as needed. 

  • Recording guests/owner communications and requests in applicable shift logs.

  • Completing daily shift checklists as applicable. 

  • Assisting in other departments as needed.

Guest Service Related:

  • Initiating conversations with guests and owners, thanking them, anticipating their needs, seeking their feedback, and taking appropriate action. Consistently practicing the “10 and 5 rule,†referring to the guest by name, making appropriate eye contact, and displaying positive/welcoming body language when doing so.

  • Approaching all interactions with guests, vendors, and team members in an attentive, friendly, courteous, professional, business-like, service-oriented manner.

  • Obtaining the necessary knowledge to provide information and recommendations to guests and owners via phone, email, and in-person regarding the property, rooms, rates, amenities, the local area, events, activities, dining options, and directions.

  • Greeting guests and owners and providing a first point of contact to the property in a manner that creates an excellent first impression.

  • Resolving the concerns of both guests and owners according to organizational guidelines in a manner that is both effective and tactful being sure to utilize the assistance of management as needed.

  • Remaining available to guests and owners at all times while on the clock.

  • Working effectively with other department and team members and establishes good working relationships with them to best meet the needs of guests and best facilitates a positive working environment.

  • Taking initiative in finding tasks to work on during slower times and seeking ways to better enhance the guest and owner experience.

It Also Involves:

  • Arriving to work as scheduled and following the property's attendance guidelines.

  • Attending meetings and training as requested.

  • Practicing all safety guidelines of the organization and reporting safety concerns to management.

  • Adhering to organizational guidelines/policies/expectations as well as federal, state, and local laws, including the property’s confidentiality expectations.

Qualifications:


All of our team members are passionate about guest service and helping others. They initiate conversations, anticipate the needs of others, and interact with others in a courteous and efficient manner. They love being a team player and are detail-oriented as well as flexible/adaptable. They are able to work a flexible work week including nights, weekends, and holidays. They understand maintaining confidentiality is important. This position primarily works outdoors but works indoors some too and involves lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds.
