Behaviour Class Instructor - Contractor
In consultation with the Manager of Behaviour Outreach, this contractor role is responsible for the instruction and facilitation of Calgary Humane Society dog training classes, and private consultations, the purpose of which is to educate owners on humane and effective training methods and to set up both pet owners and their pets for success in the community. Responsibilities:
Provide excellent customer service to all dog owners, recent adopters, foster parents, and Calgary Humane Society class volunteers who support our classes.
Create a welcoming environment by greeting clients with a warm, friendly attitude and approachable demeanor.
Conduct thorough private consultations and assessments to understand clients' needs, goals, and concerns about their dog's behaviour and create tailored and individualized training plans.
Work with the Behaviour Outreach team to provide aftercare guidance for clients through resources and homework, while remaining available for any additional required follow-up
Instruct scheduled training classes while following set curriculum for Reactive Rover, Polite Pooches, Smarty Pups, Puppy Club, Scent Hounds, Fearful Fido and any other classes or clinics agreed upon.
Review class attendee roster and ensure class materials are prepared for attendees.
Set up, take down, and clean training auditorium before and after class.
Delivery of class curriculum while ensuring safety of the attendees and class volunteers.
Close up shelter following safety and security procedures.
Communicate regularly with the Behaviour Outreach team to ensure class materials and resources are readily available.
Maintain relationships and provide leadership to training class volunteers by promoting engagement, inclusive practices, providing direction, support, and guidance.
Practice and promote safe animal handling at all times.
