Behavior Technician 2024-25 School Year!

Job Description:

1. Implementing Behavior Plans: Behavior Technicians work closely with BCBA supervisors to implement behavior intervention plans that are tailored to the individual's specific needs. These plans are designed to improve behavior, social, communication, and daily living skills.

2. Direct Client Interaction: Behavior Technicians work directly with clients, providing one-on-one therapy sessions. They engage clients in activities and exercises that promote skill development and behavior modification based on the behavior plans.

3. Data Collection and Analysis: Technicians track and record data on client progress and behavior during therapy sessions. This data helps BCBA supervisors assess the effectiveness of interventions and make necessary adjustments to the behavior plan.

4. Reinforcement and Feedback: Behavior Technicians use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors and discourage problem behaviors. They provide immediate feedback and rewards when clients demonstrate desired behaviors.

5. Observations and Reporting: Technicians observe and monitor clients in various settings, such as at home, school, or in the community, to gather information about behavior patterns and triggers. They may also write progress reports and communicate with the BCBA and other team members.

6. Collaborative Teamwork: Behavior Technicians often work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including BCBA supervisors, teachers, parents, and other professionals. They collaborate with team members to develop comprehensive treatment plans and ensure consistency in intervention strategies across different settings.

7. Parent/Caregiver Training: Technicians may assist in training parents or caregivers on implementing behavior management techniques and strategies outside of therapy sessions to generalize the skills learned.

8. Professional Development: Behavior Technicians may participate in ongoing training and workshops to enhance their skills and stay updated with the latest research and best practices in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.

Skills and Qualifications:

• A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required, although some employers may prefer candidates with an associate or bachelor's degree in psychology, education, or a related field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, parents, and team members.
• Patience, compassion, and a positive attitude are essential traits to support individuals with behavioral challenges.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and data collection.
• Ability to follow instructions and implement behavior intervention plans with fidelity.
• A willingness to learn and be receptive to feedback from supervisors.
• Depending on the employer and location, certifications such as Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) may be required or encouraged.
