  • Customer service
    Greet customers, take orders, and provide recommendations. Bartenders should be friendly, attentive, and engaging. 
  • Drink preparation
    Mix drinks, pour beer and wine, and serve a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Bartenders should have a good knowledge of drink recipes and be able to make substitutions. 
  • Bar maintenance
    Keep the bar clean and organized, including washing glasses and utensils. Bartenders should also ensure the bar is stocked with supplies and garnishes. 
Cash handling
Collect payment from customers, balance cash drawers, and process payments. 
Age verification
Check customers' identification to ensure they are of legal drinking age. 
Customer safety
Monitor customers' alcohol consumption and refuse service to those who are intoxicated or disruptive. 
Bar operations
Set up, operate, maintain, and close the bar. Bartenders may also train new staff members.
