SUMMARY
Follows standardized recipes and production sheets to cook or otherwise prepare
hot and cold foods for residents, guests, and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Washes, peels, cuts, and seeds vegetables and fruits. Cleans, cuts, grinds meat, poultry, and seafood.
· Dips foods items in crumbs, flour, and batter to bread. Stirs and strains soups and sauces.
· Weighs and measures designated ingredients.
· Carries, pans, kettles, and trays of food to and from work stations, stove, and refrigerator. Stores food in designated areas according to department procedures.
· Clean work areas, equipment and utensils, separates and removes garbage. Set oven thermostats and other heat controls to setting specified.
· Grill, frys, bakes, or cooks food products by other specific methods. Reads arid follows recipes to assemble ingredients.
· Makes interpretive decisions regarding the quality outcome to assure product is the product anticipated.
· Prepare all foods following the menu, standardized recipes or preparation sheets in a safe, efficient, and sanitary manner resulting in a quality product.
· Suggest menu or recipe changes to utilize leftovers and over stocked items.
· Assure foods are prepared and ready to be served at posted times and in satisfactory quality.
· Labels and dates all in process and carryover products according to department policy. Follows guidance of supervisor in pacing work and meeting quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Two years’
experience as a cook desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and
maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine
reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of
customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with
1O's and 1OO's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American
money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished
in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving
several concrete variables in standardized situations.
