Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.
Job Overview:
Under the guidance of the Head Baker, the individual is responsible for planning, organizing, executing, and overseeing the preparation and baking of food for events and retail outlets. As a Baker, the individual ensures daily production requirements are met following Alberta's bakery system. They prioritize tasks, maintain equipment, and work various shifts, demonstrating excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
Bakery Operations
- Skillfully prepare and bake various goods using established recipes and procedures, ensuring quality and consistency
- Expertly execute Alberta's bakery system for bread baking, including scaling, mixing, dividing, proofing, shaping, scoring, and baking
- Effectively manage production schedules, prioritizing tasks to meet daily output targets
- Safely operate and maintain bakery equipment such as dividers, mixers, and ovens, ensuring optimal performance
- Uphold cleanliness standards in the bakery area, regularly cleaning and restocking equipment for smooth operations
- Proactively complete mise en place to streamline shift transitions and optimize productivity
- Deliver consistently high-quality products within specified timeframes, demonstrating precision and adherence to deadlines
- Display strong organizational and time management skills, paying close attention to detail and working towards set goals
- Exhibit initiative and problem-solving abilities to address challenges encountered during production processes
- Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy

Required Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary school education is required; post-secondary education in the culinary field is asset
- Possession of a Journeyman Certificate or Alberta Red Seal is required
- Possession of a Valid class 5 driver's license is required
- Minimum 2-year’s prior related experience with 1 year in a Bakery environment
- Experienced in baking large volume artisan bread from scratch
- Knowledge of Alberta's bakery system and bread baking techniques is an asset
- Ability to follow recipes and procedures accurately
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting
- All successful candidates (over the age of 18) will be required to go through Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
Special Clothing and Equipment:
- Uniform and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; and
- Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions:
- The position will be exposed to hot and cold temperatures; and
- This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods of time.
Hours of Work:
- The standard hours for this position are variable based on operational needs
- Early morning, evening and weekend work may be required throughout the year.
