About the Role
The Assistant Resort Manager supports and acts on behalf of the Resort Manager, overseeing all aspects of resort operations in their absence. This role helps lead multiple departments, ensures exceptional guest service, supports staff supervision and training, and maintains smooth daily operations in a dynamic remote resort environment.
We are seeking a candidate who is eager to build a long-term career with Nootka Marine Adventures and develop into a management role.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee day-to-day resort operations across all departments (guest services, housekeeping, dock, guided fishing, food services, retail, maintenance, fish processing).
· Lead guest service excellence by greeting guests, addressing concerns, communicating key daily information, and ensuring an upscale experience.
· Support seasonal opening/closing procedures, special events, departmental inventories, and supply purchasing.
· Audit maintenance needs and coordinate resolution with staff or contractors.
· Assist with booking software tasks, including check-ins/outs and folio accuracy.
· Communicate proactively with staff, departments, and leadership; participate in meetings and training.
· Onboard, train, supervise, and support employees; assign tasks, monitor productivity, and manage performance.
· Provide feedback, enforce policies, handle disciplinary issues, and assist with payroll and staff offboarding.
· Uphold safety standards, ensure staff compliance, and maintain a strong safety culture.
· Act as an ambassador for the resort, fostering positive culture, teamwork, and guest relationships.
Qualifications
Required
· Post secondary education in hospitality, tourism, or other related field, or equivalent experience
· Previous experience managing employees in the hospitality sector
· Strong leadership, communication, delegation, motivation, and conflict management skills
· Exceptional hospitality skills and guest service abilities
· Willingness to adapt with the ability to think creatively and proactively problem solve
· Attention to detail, organization, cleanliness and safety
· Strong command of the Microsoft Office suite of applications
· Experience with hospitality booking software (Maestro preferred)
· Pleasure Craft Operators Certification PCOC
· Food Safe Level 1 certification
· Serve it Right certifications
· OFA III Certification (Also called Advanced First Aid)
Preferred
· Familiarity with west coast saltwater fishing
· Remote fishing lodge management experience
· SVOP (Small Vessel Operator Proficiency) certification
· MEDA3 (Marine Emergency Duties) or SDVBS (Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety)
· ROC-M (Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Marine) certification.
