Assistant Manager (Hands-On) — Smokin’ Jack BBQ, 3rd Street Market Hall

Location: 3rd Street Market Hall (Downtown Milwaukee)
Schedule: Part-time (~30 hours/week); flexible scheduling, but must be able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays
Compensation: $18–$20 per hour (shift meal; growth opportunities)
Reports to: General Manager, 3rd Street Market Hall

About the Role

Smokin’ Jack BBQ is hiring a hands-on Assistant Manager for our 3rd Street Market Hall location. This role blends leadership and line work—you’ll run shifts, coach the team, and jump on the grill/fryers to keep service moving. You’re a team player who jumps in anywhere and fills in where needed.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead shifts on the floor: set the pace, assign stations, uphold service standards, and solve problems in real time.

  • Cook & execute: operate grills, deep fryers, and complete light/prep tasks to support the line during rushes.

  • Team management: train, motivate, and hold staff accountable to recipes, portioning, and sanitation.

  • Guest experience: own speed, accuracy, hospitality, and recovery when issues arise.

  • Ops support: assist with daily deployment, and break management.

  • Inventory & ordering: complete counts, help with ordering, receiving, and waste/variance control.

  • Food safety & cleanliness: ensure line checks, temps, labeling, and station sanitation meet standards.

  • Cash handling & opens/closes: drawers, deposits, checklists, and facility walkthroughs.

What You Bring

  • 1+ year of restaurant management or shift-lead experience (required).

  • Culinary/line background with confidence on grill and fry stations.

  • Team-first mindset: dependable, collaborative, and willing to fill in where needed across stations.

  • Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.

  • Comfort with checklists, pars, inventories, and basic scheduling.

  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

  • Food Handler/ServSafe (or ability to obtain quickly).

  • POS familiarity (Toast or similar) a plus.

  • Availability: flexible scheduling is offered, but you must be able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
