Assistant Head of Boarding, Programs

This is a full-time, 10 month contract position.

The Assistant Head of Boarding, Programs is a member of the Boarding staff and works closely and collaborates with Student Support, Health Care Providers, Faculty, and parents to ensure continuity of care and support for students.
The Assistant Head of Boarding, Programs is required to live on campus during the school year. They must be able to commit to working a rotating schedule of mornings, evenings and weekends.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Lead and support boarding staff with the planning and execution of student activities and programming that highlight the urban boarding experience.
- Coordinate activities including identifying destinations, obtaining waivers, scheduling, ensuring payments and arranging transportation.
- Ensure activities align with the Boarding School Excursion policy.
- Responsible for tracking programming supplies and inventory.
- Ensure boarding office email and shared staff daily notes are managed and documents are updated and provided to team.
- Assist with planning and executing New Student Orientation.
- Manage administrative functions including communications, as they relate to student programming.
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships and partnerships with community organizations and other schools.
- Ensure overall student needs are met including physical and mental health, social wellbeing, behaviour management, and emotional support.
- Supervise evening study.
- Lead and mentor advisory group for 8-10 students.
- Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and counsellors as needed.
- Maintain professional accountability, boundaries, responsibility, model appropriate behaviour and maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues.
- Establish boarding expectations aligned with the Code of Conduct, school handbooks and other school policies for students and carry out disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Manage and maintain the Boarding School to ensure a safe, secure and clean environment by conducting regular inspections and completing duties necessary to the smooth functioning of the Boarding School.
- Actively support the vision, mission and values of our school.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- 3 + years of recent relevant education and/or experience, ideally in Education, Recreation and Health, or youth care settings.
- Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in education or youth care related field.
- Experience supporting students with diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification; CPR Level “C” with AED is an asset.
- Ability to successfully obtain Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) criminal record check clearance.
- Must be able to work evening, overnight and weekend shifts as part of a work schedule.
- Experience working in a boarding school setting is an asset.
- Understanding of the developmental stages of adolescents including their health and wellbeing needs.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to deal effectively with conflict and manage interpersonal relationships in a timely and professional manner.
- Strong computer skills (Google, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate in a team environment.
