Splash Lagoon Indoor Water Park, located in Erie, Pennsylvania, is ranked one of the Top 10 Water Park Resorts in the country by numerous industry trade magazines. Opened in March 2003, more than three million guests have enjoyed Splash Lagoon, which includes seven water slides, pools, hot tubs, a 12-level interactive Tree House, a Tree Tops Ropes Course, 6,500 square foot Arcade with over 100 games, and Wild Waters Wave Pool.

SUMMARY

The Assistant General Manager coordinates, implements, and oversees operations of all aspects of Splash Lagoon Indoor Waterpark and Resort. The Assistant General Manager has a legal duty to protect the assets and property of Splash Lagoon.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, which may include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Provide detailed direction, supervision, and monitoring of the following departments: Aquatics, First Aid, Maintenance, Park Services, and MOD Program
  • Meet monthly with assigned departmental managers/ supervisors to review all aspects of current departmental operations including establishment and tracking of written goals.
  • Directly assist assigned departmental managers/supervisors in park operations, including, but not limited to; Training new associates and departmental managers; Maintaining inventory-tracking systems; Counsel and guidance on operational procedures; Reviewing purchases made by departments; Testing and auditing departmental employees.
  • Must be able to supervise hourly employees by, but not limited to; Interviewing and hiring new associates and departmental managers; Scheduling of hours for Manager-on-Duty shifts; Ensuring all associates and departmental mangers follow Splash Lagoon Policies and Procedures; Operations Managers may initiate and follow disciplinary actions up to AND including suspension and/or termination; Relaying information between Scott Enterprises Corporate and Splash Lagoon Staff.
  • Must be able to provide information to guests regarding facility layout and amenities.
  • Must work as a Manager-on-Duty, supervising all aspects of the facility.
  • Must be able to proficiently operate a PC and all required software packages.
  • Must be able to perform the duties of any position in assigned departments and possess knowledge of all positions in the park.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Assistant General Manager is responsible for maintaining an environment that is both safe and pleasant for all guests.
  • The Assistant General Manager is required to assist in the maintaining a high level of customer service (Aloha Spirit).
  • The Assistant General Manager ensures compliance of the facility’s safety and operational policies. All areas of the Water Safety Program will be operated to work within the guidelines as stated by Jeff Ellis & Associates, our Insurance Provider, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and other organizations as needed.
  • The Assistant General Manager will work with all local, state, and federal agencies to ensure compliance with all laws, codes, and industry-accepted practices.
  • The Assistant General Manager will develop employee incentive programs that ensure employee happiness, growth, and retention.
  • The Assistant General Manager performs other tasks and/or related duties as assigned or required by Scott Enterprises Corporate when necessary.
  • The Assistant General Manager monitors of equipment, attraction, and facility cleanliness through the list of opening/closing and daily MOD checklist.
  • The Assistant General Manager will hold weekly management meetings providing updates on challenges from the previous week and updates on the coming week.
  • The Assistant General Manager will maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends that may impact or improve park relations.
  • The Assistant General Manager will create and manage the ongoing Maintenance project list.
  • The Assistant General Manager will assist in planning and leading the annual shutdown, and other large maintenance projects.
  • Represent Splash Lagoon with Regional and National Trade Associations with the aim of keeping Splash Lagoon on the cutting edge of programming and aquatic safety.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to properly and safely operate equipment used.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of the standards of care in aquatic industry and familiarity with state regulations (Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, etc.) and standards (ASTM, Ellis & Associates, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with public, guests and staff members.
  • Must be firm, fair, consistent and courteous in order to gain the respect and cooperation of the public.
  • Must have a positive attitude in order to fully cooperate with others in a team effort, and adhere to rules and regulations to ensure successful operation of a facility.
  • Must have the physical and mental conditions necessary to be able to properly and timely activate and complete the EAP system in the case of an emergency.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be skilled in the use and care of supplied equipment.
  • Independent judgment concerning work methods and procedures is required.
  • Possess basic knowledge of maintenance operations including; electrical, plumbing, pumps, filtration, and slides.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Prefer college BA/BS in business management or related field.
  • 3-5 years waterpark operations experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • The Assistant General Manager must possess an Ellis & Associates Special Facility Lifeguard & Instructor from the National Pool and Waterpark Training Program.
  • It is preferred that the Assistant General Manager possesses a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Class II Certified Ride Inspector Training.
  • It is preferred that the Assistant General Manager possesses a CPO, AFO or equivalent certification in Pool Operations and a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s License.
