Assistant Coordinator of Youth Formation

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Coordinator of Youth Formation Program assists in the administration and implementation of a total church parish youth formation program that includes (1) catechetical instructions of the young, sacramental preparations & receptions, and (2) youth ministry that builds a solid foundation to support Christian living, ministry and outreach in young people and young adults. 

This is a 12-month position, 30-hour per week and is eligible for full benefits through the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

              (other duties may be assigned by the Coordinator and/or Pastor)

  • Assists with the Implementation of the religious formation program (1st to 12th level) which support the formation of missionary disciples in accordance with the diocesan vision of youth formation, church parish needs and culture, and church parish mission and vision.
  • Assists the Coordinator and Pastor with implementation of a coordinated approach toward church parish-based youth formation in conjunction with the diocesan standards, i.e., forming missionary disciples according to the Formation Life Cycle through initiatives for all grade levels (1st-12th)
  • Assists in the implementation and on-going management of youth ministry formation program assigned by the Coordinator
  • Promotes and coordinates attendance for outside ministry opportunities for the youth of the church parish
  • Together with the Coordinator evaluates the youth formation program of the total church parish in relation to the goals, objectives, and strategies
  • Works closely with the Coordinator to ensure all components of the safe environment program are complete and in compliance in accordance with diocesan policy
  • Coordinates and administers all the Social Media Accounts of the church parish
  • Any other duties as required by the Pastor

 

Assigned duties:

·       Assist in processing mailings sent out to parents for registrations and sacrament information.

·       Assists coordinator with preparing the space for teaching the youth, Children’s Liturgy, Youth Formation Classes.

·       Assists with the organizing of curriculum and materials for facilitators with Children’s Liturgy, Youth Formation Classes.

·       Management of Social Media accounts, viz., Facebook and Instagram.

·       Assists with processing of registrations and forms turned in for sacraments.

·       Assists in preparing for all retreats and receptions and gatherings of mentors.

·       Assists in preparing for the Celebrations of the sacraments, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.

·       Assists with preparing for Trunk n’ Treat event

·       Participates in Diocesan Youth Formation meetings and continuing education programs.

 

THIS POSITION SUPERVISES:

·       Youth Mentors

·       Adult Volunteers

 

QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s or Associate Degree preferred
  • Experience in Youth Ministry preferred
  • Experience and/or certification in religious instruction and formation of youth preferred

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Must be able to live by the diocesan lifestyle for employees and strive to live as a missionary disciple
  • Must have current Safe Environment Training at all times
  • Able to effectively present information to and train staff and volunteers, youth and parents both verbally and in writing
  • Able to maintain expenses throughout the fiscal year
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with conflicts among staff and parents/children
  • Must be proficient in computer software, specifically but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to multi-task and be a self-starter
  • Must maintain all diocesan requirements for continuing education for certification

 

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and carry books/packets up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in an office setting with or without interruption
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the staff, church members (church parishioners) and volunteers.
