Controller
Role:
To direct the operations of the Accounting Department; prepare financial reports, including operating budgets; ensure complete, accurate, and timely completion of financial and accounting records for the credit union; prepare analysis of operations for management.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Oversees
the daily operations of the department.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the accounting department. Ensure that policies and procedures reflect current regulations and that the accounting procedures are in strict compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Responsible for financial reporting, financial analyses, cash management, and forecasting reports on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Hires, develops, direct, and evaluates employee performance within the department; recommends promotions/transfers and salary adjustments.
- Responsible for preparation of budgets and periodic examination of budget variance.
- Participate in identifying deposit and loan rates.
- Serve as the credit union’s liaison with regulator agency examiners and auditors.
Performance Measurements:
1.
To ensure the department meets all deadlines
with respect to settlement activities, with minimal errors and no errors that
result in losses to the credit union.
2.
To ensure that the credit union’s books and
general ledger accounts are always in balance and current.
3.
To maintain a highly qualified staff, sufficient
to meet daily accounting demands.
4.
To keep management informed regarding key
operating issues affecting the department.
5.
To provide friendly, professional, and accurate
service and support to all members and associates.
6.
To complete employee performance reviews for
staff within the prescribed timeframe.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Five years of similar or related experience
Education: A 4-year college degree in Accounting,
Finance, or another related field
