Position Summary

Perform tasks involving operating a roller for asphalt paving of parking lots, pathways and roadways.

Note: This position is considered safety sensitive

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
  • Responsible for the finished product while following proper safety and traffic precautions.

  • Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material.

  • Distribute and rake asphalt material used in construction, repair and resurfacing.

  • Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to the road surface.

  • Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material

  • Must have a safety first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is required.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

  • Manual labor including shoveling, sweeping, raking, etc.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years asphalt roller experience.

  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in heavy construction work.

  • Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads and parking lots. 

  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.

  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint, or throw an object. Excellent stamina is required. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. The noise level in the work environment is generally loud.

Very competitive wages, 100% employer paid health insurance for the employee, the employer also contributes towards dependent coverage. Employer paid Life & AD&D insurance policy $10,000. Teladoc telephone/online doctor visit service paid by the employer. PTO begins to accrue immediately upon hire on a pay period basis (weekly) and may be used on the first of the month following 60 days of employment. 401K - The company will match your dollar for dollar up to the first 1% then $.50 on the dollar on the next 5%. So, if you wanted to take full advantage of the match, you would have to put in 6% to be matched 3.5%.
