Archives Assistant (Summer Work Term)
The Archives of the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth are seeking a motivated student for a stimulating summer position in the field of documentary heritage.
Main Responsibilities:
- Process and classify archival documents, a significant portion of which are in French
- Write an article to update and enrich the content of the archives' website
- Participate in other archival processing and preservation tasks
This position is ideal for a full-time student enrolled in one of the following fields:
- Information Science, Library Science, or Archival Studies
- History
- Religious Studies/Theology
- Communication, Journalism
- Sociology or other humanities disciplines
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Excellent command of French and English (spoken and written)
- Ability to read historical cursive script fluently
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically and repetitively
- Good physical condition (ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 23 kg)
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word and Excel
- In-depth knowledge and familiarity with the structures and teachings of the Catholic Church, along with a deep respect for them (being a practicing Catholic is not required).
Job Details:
- Duration: 12 weeks full-time (35 hours per week), from June to August 2026
- Program: This position is made possible through funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program
- Eligibility:
- Must have the legal right to work in Canada
- Must be enrolled full-time
- Must plan to resume full-time studies in Fall 2026
