Aquatics Director - Full Time Exempt

Make a splash in the world of aquatics by leading a team dedicated to promoting water safety, skill development, and community engagement. Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, this position will support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director at the Mankato Family YMCA is responsible for the overall operations of the aquatics department and will ensure safety, high quality and growth of aquatic programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.    Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.

2.    Build relationships and initiates conversations with all members, staff, volunteers, and guests.

3.    Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise, and positive manner.

4.    Directs and supervises program activities and establishes new programs to meet the needs of the community in accordance with strategic and operating goals of the YMCA.

5.    Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.

6.    Work with the Marketing Director on marketing/promotions to ensure consistent messaging. May organize and schedule program registrations, and review and process program scholarship applications.

7.    Prepares and manages program budget to ensure revenue and program service goals are achieved.

8.    Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.

9.    Ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and works closely with facility maintenance.

10. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR training.

11. Schedules swim lessons and assists coaches to schedule swim team practices and meets.

12. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.

13. Exemplifies relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

14. Reviews program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
in program.

15. Supervises the Mankato Marlins Head Coach/es, swim team, and the operation of the program.

16. Hires management for Municipal swimming pools and oversees their management and operation of those facilities.

17. Follow all YMCA policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention.

18. Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr. Program Director and Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, fitness, or a related field or equivalent working experience in aquatics (aquatics coordinator, pool manager or supervisor).

2.    Minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience, three (3) years preferred.

3.    Lifeguard Training Instructor Certification, Water Safety Instructor, or YMCA Swim Instructor is preferred but not required. Must obtain specific certifications within six months of hire.

4.    Effective verbal and written communication skills.

5.    Ability to train and certify staff.

6.    First Aid/CPR/AED certified or trained upon hire.

7.    ARC or YMCA Lifeguard Instructor (Trainer preferred)

8.    CPO or AFO Certification Preferred, but not required.

9.    Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

10. Ability to work in a highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment.

11. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

12. Ability to communicate with all ages and levels of swimmers.

13. Must be reliable, courteous, and a positive model for other staff.  

14. Never been accused/convicted of any form of child abuse.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).  Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.  The ability to react in an emergency calmly and effectively.
