The Opportunity

As Aquatics Supervisor, you play an essential role in ensuring aquatics programming oversight including procurement, program development, training, in-services and delivery in support of Association goals and programming outcomes. You will help our aquatics department reach its goals, while having fun along the way! Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, this role is integral to ensure our core values and mandate are delivered in a meaningful, safe, positive and inclusive way for each participant.   

Responsibilities

  • Build, foster, and maintain positive working relationships with participants, community members, staff and volunteer in efforts to enhance and promote our YMCA in the community
  • Evaluate, present, and initiate recommendations to enhance participant satisfaction, engagement, and retention to ensure the delivery of quality aquatics programming
  • Supervise the delivery of aquatics programs offered.  Ensure program delivery is in keeping with YMCA Aquatic Swim Instruction, and YMCA Serving All Member (SAM) standards
  • Ensure Aquatics Centre and program delivery meets or exceeds any and all provincial/public health regulations, Child Protection, and Aquatics safety standards
  • Manage programming administration including oversite of participant attendance, performing evaluations, continual evaluation of current staff members and meeting staffing requirements on pool deck

Qualifications & Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in physical education, recreation, or related field is an asset 
  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience in aquatics, recreation field, 3-5 years in delivery of youth and adult programming
  • Current National Lifeguard Service, Standard First Aid & CPR, and Swim Instructor Certification Required 
  • YMCA Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor, NLS Instructor, Bronze or NLS Examiner an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in French, Arabic, etc. an asset
  • Proven track record of programming excellence and dedication to safety
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours as required
  • Ability to manage excel spreadsheets in a timely manner

Conditions of Employment

  • A clear Child Abuse Register Check
  • A current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
  • Completion of YMCA’s Child Safety & Protection Orientation within first week of employment
  • Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
  • A valid First Aid and CPR certificate
