ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Come join us for an overnight camp experience right in your own backyard! Appleby College Summer Camps and Overnight Programs provide opportunities for skill development and social interaction in a dynamic, engaging environment. With exceptional facilities and expert instruction, our programs emphasize individual growth, participation, teamwork, and—most importantly—fun.

Appleby’s scenic 60-acre campus and modern boarding facilities offer an outstanding setting for our overnight camp programs. Campers enjoy the campus both day and evening as they take part in a wide variety of programs during their 5-night stay on campus.

We are seeking caring, qualified, and enthusiastic individuals to help campers ages 7 to 13 discover what overnight camp is all about. Overnight Instructors supervise campers outside of day-camp hours, accompany them to meals, help with morning check-ins, and conduct evening lights-out checks to ensure a safe, positive environment.

Residing on campus as part of the Appleby Overnight Program Team, the Overnight Instructors are responsible for the supervision, programming, well-being, and safety of all participants in the Appleby Overnight Programs. Reporting to the Appleby Overnight Program Director, Summer Boarding Programs, this position supports Appleby’s mission to create an exceptional on-campus living experience.

WHAT MAKES THIS JOB AWESOME

•Supervise and lead campers during all evening programming.
• Oversee the boarding house to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
• Participate actively in all aspects of campers’ experiences outside of day-camp programs, including after-hours events and arrival weekend .
• Accompany campers to breakfast and dinner, perform daily check-ins, and complete lights-out rounds each night.
• Support the Appleby Overnight Program Director and the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs to promote open communication and a cohesive residence culture.
• Assist the Overnight Program Director with the planning and delivery of afternoon and evening activities.
• Ensure adherence to all health and safety policies by completing incident reports and communicating any medical or behavioural concerns.
• Lead recreation programming for campers during the afternoon and evenings.
• Build strong relationships with campers by being approachable, supportive, and visible.
• Work with day-program staff to ensure campers are fully engaged, prepared, and punctual for daily activities.
• Capture photos and videos of campers when Communications Team members are unavailable.

YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:

• Have experience in an overnight camp or recreation program environment.
• Demonstrate strong skills and experience working with children ages 7–13.
• Have previous work or volunteer experience in camp, educational, or recreational settings.
• Foster an inclusive and caring atmosphere.
• Are confident leading games and group activities.
• Are versatile, creative, and enthusiastic when facilitating programming.
• Work well independently and know when to escalate concerns.
• Build positive relationships with campers, families, and colleagues.
• Have training in student safety and mental health (an asset).
• Hold Bronze Cross and/or NLS lifeguarding certification (a strong asset).
• Are enrolled in post-secondary education.
• Remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
• Are reliable, professional, team-oriented, and creative in your approach.
