JOB SUMMARY

The America at 250 (A250) Coordinator is a full-time, Monday thru Friday, 40-hour per week position, with occasional evening and weekend hours. This is a federally funded youth employment position. The federal government defines youth as 30 years and younger. This  is a 10-month long collaborative project between Living Classrooms Foundation and the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, a National Park Service (NPS) site located in Baltimore, MD. The Project runs from September 2024 to June 2025, 10 months from hiring date. The America at 250 Coordinator will assist the park with community engagement and interpretation projects related to the America at 250th Celebration in July of 2026. The America at 250 Coordinator will work with the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine site to build relationships with local, state, and national representatives and leaders to discuss what America means to them and how the history of our nation is ever evolving and each of us has a part to play in our nation’s future. Successful candidates for the position of America at 250 Coordinator will be hired as a member of the Living Classrooms Foundation via Friends of Fort McHenry in partnership with and under the direction of the Chief of Interpretation, Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine (NPS) and the Director of Friends of Fort McHenry. The objective of this project is to develop a short documentary and traveling exhibit.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Employee must become knowledgeable about the War of 1812 and the Battle of Baltimore. NPS will provide reading materials and training in this subject matter.  

The America at 250 Coordinator will be expected to talk to visitors and share their knowledge on the War of 1812 and the Battle of Baltimore. Strong public speaking skills are needed. Candidates will talk to diverse audiences and need to be able to effectively communicate orally with visitors of various ethnic backgrounds and ages.  

Create “What does America mean to you?” questions.

Work with NPS to develop interpretation programs surrounding America at 250. 

Connect with organizations in the Baltimore City and County area.

Work with LCF/Friends of Fort McHenry on project guidelines. 

Develop documentary outline with NPS and LCF/Friends of Fort McHenry.

Develop posts for social media and webpages. 

Work directly with NPS and LCF/Friends of Fort McHenry leadership. 

Occasional regional travel is required.

Employees will follow and always adhere to most current COVID-19 protocol as outlined by NPS guidelines.  


QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma, college preferred

30 years old or under

Familiarity with Microsoft Suite

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite

Friendly and engaging personality; excellent public speaking skills; must be able to work independently and as part of a small team

Multitasking, organizational, and time management skills

Must have reliable transportation and be able to arrive on time to work
