Adoption Counselor-Offsite-Fort Worth
Essential Functions of the Position
Care for, feed, monitor, medicate and perform minor treatment on animals.
Report observed health or behavior issues to Adoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
Clean assigned areas on a daily basis.
Assist prospective clients in the selection of animals for adoption and in the preparation of adoption forms.
Provide information to the public about Humane Society of North Texas programs and promote good animal care and responsible pet ownership.
Advise new owners of pet examinations, adoption benefits, policies and procedures.
Provides humane education to customers.
Maintain database by entering accurate information on adopters and adoptable animals.
Collect and maintain accurate record of payments for adoptions, donations, and merchandise.
Check and clear voice messages, promptly answering, returning phone calls and documenting calls on phone log.
Keep current inventory of necessary program supplies and report shortages to Adoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
Maintain assigned equipment, supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or needed repairs to the Adoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service and focus.
Protect the confidential information on customers and donors.
Report to work at assigned start time; go to/return from breaks and lunch at assigned times; leave work at assigned quitting time.
Additional tasks assigned by Adoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
Ability to meet physical demands.

Routine decisions regarding the proper care and handling of animals.
Approving an adoption.
Typical Problems This Position Will Face
Dealing with fractious animals.
Customer service issues (unhappy or emotional patrons).
Regular exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches and moderate noise levels.
Managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Major Responsibilities
Assist customers with adoptions.
Maintain accurate information and record keeping.
Monitor and care for animals within the organization.
Proper animal handling.
Maintaining and watching over the adoption cash drawer.
Provide excellent customer service and focus.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position
Follow the mission of the Humane Society of North Texas.
Thorough knowledge of the Humane Society of North Texas adoption policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Humane Society of North Texas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to, admitting, cleaning and medical protocols.
Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
Must be detail oriented and have strong time management skills.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
